WHAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT?

Phil 3:8-9 “…all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant. I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him…”

There was a time in my life that, by the standards of the world, I pretty much had all that this world could offer. I had a house on the river, boats, toys, cars, women, money, party goods, parties, athletic abilities, awards, scholastic achievements and much more. I was not a happy person!

I began a personal journey to discover real happiness and satisfaction. I searched for it in every venue that this world has to offer without any success. You name it, I tried it! Each of those experiences simply left me empty and without meaning, purpose or personal fulfillment. Believe me when I say “I tried it all!”

As I observed others, to order to assist me in the discovery of what real life should be all about, I noticed a special group of people, who even though they weren’t exempt from the trials of life, lived life in a very vibrant sort of fashion. These people had a zest for life and compassion seemed to be the order of the day. They didn’t have to medicate to rest at night or to awake and face each new day. They always had a smile on their face, and it wasn’t the numb, contrived look that worldly people paint on each new morning.

As I began to dig around in their lives, I discovered that it wasn’t what they had accumulated in the way of material possessions, (Some had them, others didn’t) finances, conquests, business accolades or awards. They all had one thing in common…they had entered into a relationship with this one they called Jesus. One of these “weird” people introduced me to Him and that was all it took. John 10:10 “I came that you might have life (The God kind of Life) and live it more abundantly!”

Paul continues on in the next verse…Phillipians 3:9ff “ I didn’t want some petty, inferior brand of righteousness that comes from keeping a list of rules when I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ—God’s righteousness. I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, and experience his resurrection power…”

This describes my life perfectly…I literally gave up on all that “inferior stuff” so that I could allow “His resurrection power…” to come into my life and bring me into the place where He could lead me into a life that brought me to the fulfillment of my dreams.
One by one, He began to transform the individual areas of my life that had suffered from a lack of life through His Resurrection Power! I challenge you today to allow Him to breathe fresh life back into the areas of your life that have fizzled & died...Relationship with God, Hopes, dreams, futures, finances, physical & emotional health, relationships, faith, ability to love others and yourself, purpose, sanity, marriage, feelings, temperance, and victory.

He is looking for relationship with you-not religion. Invite Him into the areas of your life today that are lifeless. Take a moment with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to be honest with you. Ask Him to show you the areas that need a dose of resurrection Power. When He reveals them to you…be honest with him and tell Him you need His Power to bring new life into that area!

Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say to you, Whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.” If you really desire from the depths of your heart, a fresh breath of Resurrection Power, He will give it to you!

“I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, and experience his resurrection power…” Phillipians 3:10
STUFF IS JUST STUFF NO MATTER HOW YOU DRESS IT!

ONE UGLY FROG!

Beautiful people…You can see them everywhere and anywhere! They are displayed on Billboards, television, movies, magazines and in department stores. Beautiful people… physical attraction has been made that which draws our attention to other people and that which qualifies those same people for an elevated social status in the world in which we live.

Scientific research has proven that beautiful people receive more attention, favor, promotion, and are treated with higher regard than those who are not so privileged. What about the short; the tall; the overweight; the acne scarred teenager; the ugly; the handicapped; the cripple; the aids patient; the cancer victim; the drunk; the abused; and so on?

This afternoon, I was “deadheading” the really neat (pink…my wife chose the color) rose bushes in our front yard. While sitting on an upside down bucket, cutting the old faded roses off, something slimy moved up against my foot. When I looked down, I saw a really ugly, deformed, hump-backed toad sitting there next to me. He was looking me right in the eye. I almost expected him to say something, or to move or at least hop away. I asked him to stay for a moment while I went and got my camera to prove I wasn’t imagining things. He is pictured on this post so you can see for yourself!

The Bible says that “all men have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 In God’s eyes we must look pretty ugly. Isaiah describes our condition in these words… “We are all infected and impure with sin. When we proudly display our righteous deeds, we find they are but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall. And our sins, like the wind, sweep us away." NLT One translation interprets the “filthy rags” as menstrual cloths.

That description tells the truth about the ugliness of our sin against God. However in His mercy and love, He still reaches out to the ugly and the sin infected. His Word declares “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Jeremiah 31:3 NLT

No matter how ugly, broken, bruised, crushed, poor, depressed or demonic we are, He still draws us to Himself. Sin infected as we are, He sent His Son to die and His Spirit to pursue us and to draw us back again to Himself! “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:8 Thank God for His Love right now! He never gave up on you and I, no matter how unattractive we were. He saw us through the eyes of His love!

In the same manner, God expects us to reach out to the ugly people in our own circle of influence. First of all, there are those who are deluded into believing that they are the beautiful people and don’t realize their need for a Savior. Jesus addressed the beautiful people of His day in this manner. “… you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity.Matthew 23:27

We just can’t ignore these people and let them die and go to hell. We need to be filled with the same Spirit that caused Jesus to weep over the lost souls of Jerusalem as He cried “Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Murderer of prophets! Killer of the ones who brought you God’s news! How often I’ve ached to embrace your children, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you wouldn’t let me.” Matthew 23:37 Even though they were ugly, murderous villains, Jesus still wanted to gather them to Himself. Ugliness doesn’t scare God! Be compassionate, and reach out to these too. Don‘t treat the beautiful people as leprous and beyond hope. There was a time when it seemed that I was also beyond hope!

Remember when you were ugly? Of course, now you recognize that you are a “treasure” and “the apple of God’s eye” and enjoy fellowship with Him. Do you remember when you sat all alone and on the inside you were crying out (Consciously or subconsciously) for someone to recognize the hurt, the pain and the emptiness. Remember how God came along side and into your life and revolutionized your ugliness. Listen very carefully here….

God “comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.” 2 Corinthians 1:4 TM

There are ugly people all around you right now. Who is waiting for a touch from our Heavenly Father though you, because you already have personally experienced His comfort in your life? Can you take a single moment and peer through the ugliness and find some sense of beauty in their miserable lives? Do you have time, or will you make time, to reach out and get involved in an ugly person’s life? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit right now. Someone’s ugliness is crying out in desperation for your touch!

Through your life and His Spirit within you, God desires to “give beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair.” Isaiah 61:3

The longer I looked at the frog, and got beyond the ugly humps on his back, the more beautiful he became. I saw his brilliant green colors begin to dance before my eyes, and then there were his eyes….

There is true beauty waiting to be discovered behind every ugliness in someone’s life!

Your Worth!

Revelation 1:5-6 “All praise to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us. He has made us his kingdom and his priests who serve before God his Father. Give to him everlasting glory! He rules forever and ever! Amen!”

We need to come to the place where we are secure enough in who we are in Christ that we will not allow our sense of worth to be based on the opinions or actions of others.

Don't try to find your worth in how you look. Don't try to find your worth in what you do or what you’ve done in the past. Worth does not come from the amount of money you make, the performances you render, or the number of lovers you embrace. Don't try to find your worth in how other people treat you.

You are worth something because Jesus shed His blood for you.

You may have faults, and there may be things about you that need to be changed, but God is working on you the same as He is on everybody else. Don't let somebody else dump their problems off on you and allow them to re-entangle you in the web of worry, doubt, doom, gloom, shame & sin.

Don't allow someone else to make you feel worthless or useless just because they don't know how to treat you right and love you as you deserve to be loved… as a blood -bought child of God.

Don't spend all your life trying to win somebody else's acceptance or approval. Just do unto others as Jesus commands us to do and if that isn’t good enough…that’s HIS problem. Remember that you have already been accepted and approved by God. Make sure that your affirmation, your validation, your sense of self-worth come from Him and what He says about you in His Word.

  • You are an heir of God…a Joint Heir with Jesus Christ.

  • You are a Son OR Daughter of God.You are the Apple of God’s Eye.

  • You are the Righteousness of God in Christ. (That means you stand in the presence of God as though sin has NEVER touched your life.)

  • You are Made in the Image & Likeness of God.

  • You possess a Soul which is greater than all the value the world has to offer.

  • You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.

  • Angels minister unto us , and rejoice in our obedience.

  • Jesus is preparing a place for you to live with Him in Heaven forever.

  • You can do all things thru Christ Who strengthens you!

  • You are fearfully & wonderfully made. You have the favor of God & of man.

  • You are Free to live in Christ.

Need I say More?

Peace in Jesus!

REMEMBER!

Our God is a God of Remembrance. He enjoys recalling to His mind such things as people who have a fear or reverential awe of Who He is, or people who set their minds on Him and the things of His Kingdom. He even has a Book of Remembrance for those people as stated in Malachai 3:16-18 "Then those who feared and loved the Lord spoke often of him to each other. And he had a Book of Remembrance drawn up in which he recorded the names of those who feared him and loved to think about him. “They shall be mine,” says the Lord Almighty, “in that day when I make up my jewels...Then you will see the difference between God’s treatment of good men and bad, between those who serve him and those who don’t."

The word remember or remembrance means "to call to mind, usually by a verbal declaration, or to rehearse an experience orally." The Bible is filled with God's commands to build altars and memorials to

remember the grace of God after deliverance, provision and victories, etc.. We are commanded to remember or rehearse the goodness and greatness of God even to our children. "We will not hide these truths from our children, but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord. We will tell of His power and the mighty miracles He did." Psalm 78:4

Revelation 12:12 states that we "overcome the enemy by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony." That means that we declare with our mouths and believe in our hearts exactly WHO Jesus is, and WHAT He's done for us." JESUS Said in 1 Corinthians 11 and Luke 22 “as often as you do this do it in remembrance of me.” Call to remembrance...REHEARSE THE TERMS

Exactly what are the TERMS OF THE COVENANT? What should we remember? What should we declare? Who is He? What has He done? Let me give you something to declare!

Ephesians 1: 19 declares "I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of His Power for us who believe Him."

WHAT DO THEY SEE?

A friend of mine, who recently opened the door to a personal relationship with Jesus, wrote of an experience she had as a young lady in High School with a teacher who was supposed to be a Christian. She had been physically and emotionally abused by this teacher, who was somehow able to turn the tables on this young lady, and have her thrown out of school. I’m sure that my friend had something to do with the behavior, but she did not do anything to warrant the physical mistreatment she received, ending up with pretty serious bruises on her face, as the teacher squeezed so hard to "catch her attention."

She didn’t know it, but through this experience with someone who professed to be a “Christian” and didn’t live the Christian lifestyle, her view of God was permanently distorted. This distortion led to a false misrepresentation of what God was really like. Somewhere deep on the inside she believed that since this person claimed to represent God that she didn’t want anything to do with a God like that.

Paul states in 2 Corinthians 3:2 that we are an “epistle….known and read of all men.” Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus was the “brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person.” As Christians we are also responsible to reflect the character and nature of God, our Father. In Matthew 5:16 Jesus says that we should let our lights (lifestyle, character, temperament, etc.) “so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

What portrayal of the Lord do people see in your life? What is being reflected concerning His Character and Nature in your lifestyle? Deuteronomy 28: 10 says that “all the people of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD," when you live right.

That kind of experience in a "religious" environment can sure leave a bad taste in a young ladies life. Who would want to serve a God whose servants act like that? As a result of experiences like these and the ungodly actions of other professing so-called "Christians" God gets a very bad reputation. It is easy to see why the world calls most Christians hypocrites, because sadly we do not reflect the love, character and nature of the God within us.

As with any title that is bestowed upon people, just because you have a title, does not mean you are what the title states. Many professing Christians aren't Christians at all, just living under a false pretense. Jesus said "Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity." Matthew 7:23

I know many professing "Christians" who do not appear to have any relationship with the Lord at all. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why it took so long for Him to establish Lordship over her life. You'd be amazed by how many people are affected by actions of those who claim to represent God, yet don't even know Him personally. Anyone who openly claims the Lordship of Jesus over their lives, walks in obedience to His Word and Spirit, and reflects the appropriate fruit of that relationship in their lives, are the one's who can rightfully lay claim to the title Christian. Matthew 7:18-20.

Forgive those who have hurt you and like Paul says in Phillipians 3:13-14 "I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven."

Take a long look into the mirror tonight!
WHAT DO YOU SEE?
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

WHAT HE'S DONE FOR ME!

Ephesians 1:16-18 “I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you wisdom to see clearly and really understand who Christ is and all that he has done for you." In my last writings entitled “Do You see Clearly?” we addressed the issue of exactly Who Jesus is.

Ephesians 1:19-21 delivers a description as clearly and fully as any in the Bible. God raised him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from his rule. And not just for the time being, but forever. He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything.”

Today I wish to lead you on an incredible journey destined to lead you into the Truth of who you are, and what He has done for you! Do you remember the distorted mirrors located at the old fashioned boardwalk penny arcades? If that was the only image you had ever seen of yourself, then that’s exactly how you would see yourself today. Big fat butt; 15” neck, little short legs, etc.. The image you have received from the world, peers, enemies and parents have all led to a basic distortion of the facts concerning who you are today.

In the Mirror of Truth, the Bible, the truth is revealed clearly, and as you read through this writing and the next several, you are going to have to exchange a lot of your stinking thinking for the truth. “He goes away and immediately forgets what manner of man he is.” James 1:24 The “new creation” man, unless he has made a careful study and received revelation of who he is in Christ, in the time of pressure and stress will forget “what manner of man he is.”

We unconsciously lapse back into our old way of living and our old mindsets seeing ourselves as we were, not as we are. With that viewpoint we are most readily dismayed and easily defeated. In that moment all of the sense knowledge we have accumulated over the years roars back into prominence and guides our thinking and beliefs, destroying any faith that attempts to surface in our moment of need. How often since you have become the new creation, have you forgotten what manner of person you have become?

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation” 1 Corinthians 5:17-18 here is what the Mirror of Truth is telling us today!

1) You are a “new creation.” That old sickly, weak, fear filled, worthless, do-nothing, inadequate, inferior, insignificant, sinful, empty, meaningless, person you may have been no longer exists. You get to start all over again, and your new beginning states that you HAVE NO PAST!

2) “All things have become new and all things are of God” God has breathed into your life a whole new beginning, a fresh start. Remember that God doesn’t make any junk! Now all that you have and all that you are, is filled with the Divine potential of the Power of God. Everything inside of me is greater than anything in this evil, crazy world! (1 John 4:4)

3) “I am reconciled to God.” That means that God has re-established the close, intimate, personal relationship which beforehand was non existent. I can sing “I am a Friend of God,” and sing it in truth. I am acceptable to God and the separation the sin issue had established between God and me, has been settled and resolved by the Cross!

4) I have a Ministry…a Purpose. One of the most frustrating issues of life is meaninglessness or lack of purpose. God Himself has given me a Divine Purpose in directing me to be a Minister of Reconciliation to others who don’t know Him! I have a reason to get out of bed in the morning; something with eternal significance!

Say it to your self. Ask God to give you a revelation of these facts!

I am a new Creation. Everything in me is of God. I am a Friend of God. I have purpose! With these truths firmly planted in your mind and heart, how can you be defeated? When once again the pressures rise and prepare to attack, remind them and remind yourself of these facts: I am God’s Friend, a New Creation, He has reformulated me and filled me with an indestructible ministry!

Meditate on these until next Wednesday when we’ll be learning about Sonship and Righteousness!

THE CHRISTMAS BELL

“The bottom edge of the ephod shall be embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet pomegranates, alternated with gold bells. Aaron shall wear the ephod whenever he goes in to minister to the Lord; the bells will tinkle as he goes in and out of the presence of the Lord in the Holy Place...” Exodus 28:34-35

The only place the word “Bell” is used in the Bible is in reference to the golden bells which were attached to the bottom of the robe the High Priest wore when he ventured into the Holy of Holies or the very Presence of God. The bells were doubtless intended to keep up the people's attention to the very solemn and important office which the priest was then performing, that they might all have their hearts engaged in the work; and at the same time to keep Aaron himself in remembrance that he ministered before Jehovah, and should not come into his presence without due reverence.

I would also remind you that if the bells were to stop ringing, the attendants would drag the High priest from the Holy of Holies by the rope attached to his foot. He had made the fatal mistake of attempting to enter the Presence of God improperly prepared or without reverential awe!

Sometimes it does us good to rehearse the Awesomeness of God and remember that the Presence of God now lives within us! You have become the Holy of Holies. Someone sent me the following “Christmas Bell” by email and the author remains anonymous. I wanted to share it with you this Christmas in order to remind you that you have a right to enter into the presence of God because of the Gift He gave us the first Christmas.

What better time than now to believe in your heart that Jesus was born in that manger to die on the Cross for you! As you believe then invite Him to be the Lord over your life; your Gift from God will be New Life this Christmas!

Now read and research every Scripture within your own “Christmas Bell!”

May the Peace of God and His Spirit of Eternal Life be your portion today!
